A woman was arrested last Tuesday (21/07) after faking her own kidnapping and that of her 3-year-old son and asking her husband for a ransom. She told her partner that she was going to take the boy to a doctor's appointment and soon after sent messages stating that she had been kidnapped and the criminals wanted a ransom of R$1,400,000.

After telling about the kidnapping, she even put the crying child on the phone to speak to her father. The woman was identified as Raimunda Souza, 43 years old. The information is from TV Globo.

After being informed about the kidnapping, the husband contacted the Anti-Kidnapping Police Station (DAS). The police were able to confirm that there was no medical appointment and found the woman and her son in the food court of a shopping mall in Jacarepaguá, in the West Zone of Rio.

“We carried out investigations inside the shopping mall and, around 6pm, we found her with the child in the food court. There was no kidnapping or threat. She was sitting calmly with the child,” said police officer Cláudio Góis, who is responsible for the case, in an interview with Bom Dia Rio, on TV Globo.

Raimunda was taken to the police station and confessed to the crime. She said she owed money to loan sharks, which is why she had the idea of faking her own kidnapping. “We took her to the police station and she reported that she owed money, had a huge credit card debt, was in debt to loan sharks and had the idea of using herself and her son to take the money from her husband and pay off the debt,” said Góis.

The woman was arrested, but was released and will answer for the crime of extortion in freedom. G1
