On Sunday morning (18), shortly after leaving the Vila Nova Star hospital, in the South Zone of São Paulo, President Jair Bolsonaro spoke about the increase in the Electoral Fund to R$5.7 billion approved by Congress last Thursday (15). The president signaled that he should veto the proposal.
Bolsonaro also exempted good deputies who voted yes for the LDO, but were prevented from voting on the fund's highlight thanks to a maneuver by the board of directors.
“I follow my conscience and I follow the economy and we will try to find a good end to this. After all, I already anticipate, R$1.5 billion for electoral funds, for God’s sake. R$1.5 billion in the hands of Tarcísio (Infrastructure), he would resurface a large part of Brazil’s road network, R$1.5 billion in the hands of Rogério Marinho (Regional Development), he would complete the water supply for the Northeast,” said Bolsonaro.
The fund could be worth around R$6 billion. The parties that could benefit the most are the PT and PSL, which managed to elect the largest benches in the last elections. The initiative by the Legislative Branch is completely unpopular and has even been criticized by many members of the National Congress.
