The helicopter carrying Colombian President Iván Duque was attacked on Friday, the 25th. The president was not hit, and made a statement after landing stating that he will not be “frightened by violence or acts of terrorism.” The president indicated that “Colombia is a strong state,” and that he will continue “working every day” despite the threats.
Duque also called on security forces to “go after” those responsible for the attack.
“Our institutions are above threats.” The attack took place near the city of Cúcuta, and involved other government officials.
According to the president, the pilot's expertise was essential to avoid further damage.
“We will continue to stand strong in the fight against crime,” said Duque, citing organizations operating in the country.
According to Colombian newspaper El Tiempo, rifle shots were fired at the aircraft, with three hitting the object. Operations are currently underway in the Camilo Daza region, where the attack is believed to have originated.
