The Federal Police sent a request to open an investigation to the Federal Supreme Court (STF) to investigate Minister Dias Toffoli on suspicion of receiving illegal payments.
Based on the testimony of former Rio de Janeiro governor Sérgio Cabral, who in a plea bargain declared that Toffoli received R$4 million to favor two mayors of the capital of Rio de Janeiro in proceedings at the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), the request was made.
Sentenced to more than 200 years in prison by the courts in cases related to Operation Lava Jato, Cabral has been serving his sentence since 2016. In February of last year, he had a plea bargain agreement approved by STF minister Edson Fachin.
According to the convicted former governor, the transfers involve the law firm of Toffoli's wife, Roberta Rangel.
investigated for the crime of passive corruption, Toffoli said in a note released by his advisory that he was unaware of the facts mentioned and denied having received illegal payments.
The case documents were sent to the case rapporteur, Edson Fachin, last week, who has now forwarded them to the Attorney General's Office (PGR).
