Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), determined the extension by 60 days of the investigation that investigates the alleged political interference of President Jair Bolsonaro in the Federal Police. In the same dispatch, on the afternoon of this Friday (27), Moraes also asks that the Attorney General of the Republic, Augusto Aras, speak out within five days, about Bolsonaro's withdrawal from testifying in the investigation.
On Thursday (26), Bolsonaro told the Supreme Court that he would not testify in the case. The Attorney General's Office (AGU) reported that the president “declined” to explain himself to the authorities and asked that the case be forwarded to the PF for the preparation of a final report.
The president's testimony is the final step in completing the investigators' report. Once finalized, the report will be sent to the Attorney General's Office (PGR), which is responsible for deciding whether there is sufficient evidence to file a complaint against Bolsonaro.
The investigations are looking into accusations by former Minister of Justice and Public Security Sérgio Moro about alleged improper interference by Bolsonaro to change the leadership of the PF. In April, the former Lava Jato judge left the government after pressure from Planalto to replace the then director-general of the corporation, Maurício Valeixo, with the director of Abin, Alexandre Ramagem, a name close to the presidential family.
Moro is also being investigated in the inquiry into the crime of false accusation.
