Some people are capable of doing anything to make money, no matter how absurd it may be. An example of this was the young blogger you will meet below, who did the unimaginable in order to pocket a large sum of money, without expecting that she would soon be arrested for her actions.
Katerina Yakimenko, who is 23 years old, is a Ukrainian influencer with a large following. She was recently arrested for faking her own kidnapping in order to receive ransom money from the man she was in a relationship with.
The young woman is well-known in her home country and is also very active on social media, frequently interacting with her followers. She was in a romantic relationship with a wealthy, older Russian man until she met someone else, with whom she fell in love and planned the crime, which ended badly after several failures.
Katerina, who lives in the city of Kharkov, was quickly discovered by the authorities. After the fake kidnapping, the National Police of Ukraine received a ransom demand for 5 bitcoins, equivalent to about US$169,000.
But what Katerina didn't expect was that the police would locate the vehicle used in the alleged kidnapping to find her. In addition, Ukrainian authorities were also able to track the credit card that was still being used by Katerina.
The authorities managed to locate the young woman and discovered her entire plan. Katerina is expected to be tried soon for her actions.
