Serving God is one of President Jair Bolsonaro's goals during his government. This statement was made during a ceremony at the Naval Academy in Rio de Janeiro.
In his speech at the graduation ceremony for the navy guards, the president praised the dedication of the military in serving the country and stated that Brazil is on a path of change to become a better nation, and this involves respect for the people and family, in addition to following God.
“The ideal of serving the country is priceless. The Brazilian government is changing, everyone can feel it. Today we have a government that values family, honors the military, respects the people and worships God,” declared Bolsonaro.
“Brazil is changing. It is changing for the better. And these kids, these young people, who are now spread across the four corners of our country, will take our values and our feelings of patriotism to these places,” added the president.
Days before, the president stated that he has dedicated himself to reading the Holy Bible with the purpose of putting into practice what he learns: “I have a habit, Dias Toffoli, of reading the Bible every day, so that I can find a verse and, on that day, I try to follow what is there. And, by a tremendous coincidence, what I saw today in Proverbs 24:6 has to do with our work. It is the work of all of us, and it says there: those who go to war need guidance. Until everything is fine, my dear General Heleno. And it ends: with many advisors, victory is achieved. We cannot achieve anything alone, we need to interact”, he stated.
The statement was made during the opening of the forum “Control in the Fight against Corruption”, organized by the Office of the Comptroller General of the Union (CGU). The verse in question, cited by the president, says “He who goes to war needs guidance, and with many advisers victory is obtained”.
“No matter how much they accuse me of being authoritarian, the decisions I make I listen to most of these actors I just mentioned, because the chance of making a mistake is minimal, and the chance of victory really becomes the greatest possible,” added Bolsonaro, contextualizing his argument.
