The Minister of Justice and Public Security, Sérgio Moro, a notorious defender of the fight against corruption due to his work as a judge in Operation Lava Jato, is the guest of the special commission next Wednesday (12) that analyzes the return of imprisonment after conviction in the second instance (PEC 199/19), notes the Chamber News Agency.

Last year, the Supreme Court decided that no one should be considered guilty until there is a final sentence, that is, until all possibilities of appeal in all instances have been exhausted, making it difficult to arrest corrupt individuals.

The decision also served to free former president Lula, who was convicted of corruption and money laundering in the second instance.

Congressman José Nelto (Podemos-GO) is one of the authors of the requests that asked for Moro to come. “Minister Moro is this moral reserve who will give his point of view on whether we are on the right path or not. And what he can contribute so that the National Congress can vote on imprisonment in the second instance as quickly as possible and within the law.”

For the president of the special committee, Marcelo Ramos (PL-AM), it will be possible to vote on the proposal until March because most parliamentarians are in favor. The deadline for amendments has already ended and no amendments have been presented.
