According to information from Estadão, the governor of Rio de Janeiro, Wilson Witzel, was reported by businessman Daniel Gomes da Silva, who held contracts in the health sector in Paraíba and Rio, and was arrested in December 2019.
According to the plea bargain, R$115,000 was donated to Witzel's campaign, after “Robson” requested it via WhatsApp:
“Robson sent several photos with candidate Witzel and Arolde via the WhatsApp application (attached messages), information about his support for the candidate for State Government, and also asked me for financial help for the campaign, stating that Witzel had grown a lot in the polls and that, if he won the election, the financial help would open doors for me with the state government,” stated Daniel.
The contact would have also made a promise to the businessman: “He also told me that in conversations with members of Witzel's personal team, that he had few people supporting him until then, and that in my area of expertise (Health), he would have plenty of room to work, as long as he helped financially at that time”, said Daniel.
He also allegedly made donations of R$1 million to the campaign of João Azevedo, the current governor of Paraíba. The content of the messages was handed over to the Attorney General's Office.
