President Jair Bolsonaro announced today (10) that the government is preparing a bill to allow Law and Order Guarantee (GLO) operations in repossessions in rural areas, a measure that foresees the use of the Armed Forces to deal with critical security situations in the country.
According to Bolsonaro, even when ordered by the courts, governors end up delaying sending the Military Police to remove invaders from rural properties.
“When criminals invade a rural property, the judge orders the repossession, as always, the governors delay this, almost always, almost as a rule they delay this. It could be a governor, or the president himself could, through our project, create the rural GLO, to remove the guy from the property. The guy invades the farm, burns the cattle, destroys property, kills animals and that’s it,” said Bolsonaro.
During the interview at the exit of the Alvorada Palace this morning, Bolsonaro defended private property as one of the pillars of democracy and said that immediate reintegration helps to inhibit other invasions.
“There is already [a repossession in] a state that is on our shoulders to resolve. After 8 years of invasion, it is more difficult to repossess the property. It has to be something urgent. If you give an urgent response, you inhibit others who might want to do that [invade],” he said.
