“Brazilianness is an opportunity for everyone, and whoever wants to stay deep in the reserve has the right,” said Onyx.
The Chief Minister of the Civil House, Onyx Lorenzoni, stated that the federal government must begin regulating mining on indigenous land.
The statement was made this Tuesday (3), after a meeting with the governors of Amazonas, Acre, Roraima and Rondônia, held in Manaus.
The minister said that the measure will ensure that the 23 million inhabitants of the Amazon have better living conditions and the ability to develop productively:
“Brazilianness is an opportunity for everyone, and whoever wants to stay deep in the reserve has the right. Now, whoever wants to roll up their sleeves, put their hands and feet on the ground and produce, let them be given that right.”
According to the newspaper Sheet, Onyx argued that the activity is provided for in the Constitution and that it has never been regulated:
“In fact, it is in the Brazilian Constitution, in articles 231 and 176, if I remember correctly, that in 30 years it has not been regulated and this is something we discussed with the governors and we are going to work on it.”
