GAS AID: check if you are entitled to receive this benefit

Auxílio-Gás, a federal government program created in 2001 to pay for cooking gas for low-income families, currently serves around 5.7 million households.

Benefits are paid bimonthly in the amount of R$ 110.00, which is half the average monthly price of a 13 kg cylinder.

Despite its long implementation, the gasoline subsidy still raises questions for many families about who can claim it, how to register and how it will be paid.

Where should I register to receive gas assistance?

To receive Gas Aid, families must be registered in the Single Registry, which can be done through the CadUnico app for Android and IOS.

If this is not possible, it is also possible to register in person through the Social Assistance Advisory Center (CRAS).

The Single Registry is used to allow citizens to participate in other federal government income distribution programs, such as Auxílio Brasil.

In addition, the app is a way to keep information secure and reduce queues at registration offices. When registering, the person responsible for receiving the information must be indicated, preferably a woman.

Although registration is required to receive Gas-Aid, receipt is not guaranteed. Based on the Single Registry, at the request of the Ministry of Citizenship, the selection criteria are evaluated and prioritized and assessed by a social worker.

In addition, benefits are reviewed every 2 months to check whether payments will continue. Inquiries can be made through the Caixa Tem app or by calling Caixa Atendimento (111).

Who is entitled to gas assistance?

Families earning less than 3 minimum wages or half a minimum wage per capita are eligible for gas assistance benefits. Families earning more than 3 minimum wages may also receive it if they are enrolled in an income transfer scheme such as Auxilio Brasil.

In addition, people enrolled in the Continuous Social Assistance Benefit (BPC) are also entitled to the gas assistance benefit. BPC is a benefit for seniors aged 65 and over and people with disabilities who have not demonstrated other options to improve themselves or support their families.

The value of the benefit is the monthly minimum wage (1,212 reais). It is important to note that there are some rules regarding priority for receiving the benefit, as the scope of the benefits ends up being limited.

Therefore, priority will be given to families with lower incomes and those with a greater number of Auxilio-Brasil beneficiaries, provided that their registration is up to date and eligible.

Where do I receive gas assistance?

Gas assistance is paid by the federal government through bank or digital accounts, which can be opened automatically if families do not have access to any of these options.

Payments are made every 2 months and the installments have a validity period of 120 days, calculated in calendar days from the date of payment of the benefits.

Taking into account the Social Identification Number (NIS), the payment of the gas aid occurs on the same day as the receipt of the Brazilian aid installment. Until now, government deposits have been made in even months.

Withdrawals can be made at branches and lottery outlets, as well as at self-service terminals, using the same card and PIN as for Auxílio-Brasil withdrawals.

If the gas aid is paid through Digital Social Savings, beneficiaries can use the Caixa Tem app to pay bills such as electricity and gas bills or bank statements. Purchases can also be made with virtual debit cards or QR codes in various locations, such as supermarkets or pharmacies.
