Every time an employee gets a new job, a new account is added to their FGTS statement. Therefore, when checking the total balance, it is possible to see the Active Account and the Inactive Account.
The Active Account is linked to the company you are currently working for, if you are employed. This account receives deposits every month and earns interest.
An Inactive Account is linked to a company you have worked for, meaning that you no longer have an employment relationship with. It may have a balance, but it does not receive new deposits, but it continues to earn interest and receive updates.
To check whether your company is paying correctly or to check how much you have in the FGTS, you need to register on the Caixa Econômica Federal website and follow a few steps.
Enter your PIS number and register your password. Confirm that you accept the rules, fill in your personal details and register a password. You will soon receive a registration confirmation and will be able to check your statement and full balance whenever you want.
You can also check your FGTS using the app. The registration process is very similar, except that you will need to download the app on your phone. The good news is that you can monitor your FGTS funds regularly by requesting notifications via SMS.
