Trump is the third US president to be impeached
The Democrat-dominated US House has just approved the second and final charge – obstruction of Congress – against Donald Trump in his impeachment trial, by a vote of 229 to 198.
With this, Trump has just become the third president to be impeached in all of American history. The first was Andrew Johnson (1808-1875), in 1868, and the second was Bill Clinton, in 1998.
The president, however, will not leave office, and the impeachment process now moves to the Senate, where the majority is Republican.
In other words, Trump should end up being acquitted by the senators, as Clinton was.
