For the first time in 25 years, Rede Globo will not air a new season of Malhação. On air since 1995, the 28th season of the teen soap opera would premiere in May this year, but the broadcaster decided to suspend the project indefinitely due to the new coronavirus pandemic. Globo's financial situation has become increasingly worse. “Medalhões” were fired and, now, the broadcaster is unable to keep its “promises”.
It is obvious that the “big” broadcaster was supported by public money and corruption schemes that existed in past governments. In the Bolsonaro government, things work differently and the broadcaster suffers the consequences of being specialized in corruption.
Written by Priscila Steinman, the plot of Malhação Transformação would address topics such as social inequality, education, religion, armed conflicts and even Covid-19. In addition to the cast made up of debuting actors, the plot would mark the return of Mel Lisboa to Globo, who was revealed on the network in 2001 in the miniseries Presença de Anitta.
