One of Brazil's leading Christian leaders spoke out on Monday (15/6). Evangelical pastor Silas Malafaia posted a video on his official YouTube channel stating that the Supreme Federal Court (STF) is “carrying out a coup in Brazil.”
“If I am arrested for what I am going to say here, I will go with pleasure, because I am defending my country and the Brazilian Constitution!” exclaims the pastor.
His complaint is extensive. According to Malafaia, Rede Globo is acting in collusion with the Supreme Court because it lost a lot of money when the President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro, cut public funding for broadcasters.
Silas claims that inquiry 4781, known as the “fake news inquiry,” is illegal and immoral. Criticizing the speech of the Court minister, Edson Fachin, in the trial of the inquiry that took place last Wednesday, the 10th, the pastor asks “since when does the STF have the power to determine the words of a Brazilian?!”
He points out contradictions such as a statement by Minister Celso de Mello, from the same Court, comparing the President's supporters to Nazis. "He says, that's okay! That's my freedom of expression!", he exclaims.
The pastor exposes several serious contradictions in the video and casts doubt on the ministers' words about Bolsonaro's supporters.
“The STF tore up the Constitution when it opened the fake news investigation!” he emphasizes. “It is the biggest legal aberration of all time!” he reinforces.
Malafaia classifies Minister Alexandre de Moraes, rapporteur of inquiry 4781, as a “tyrant and dictator”, points out inconsistencies in the process and states that the inquiry is “political persecution”, given that, according to him, although there are thousands of posts on social media “asking for absurd things”, such as closing the Supreme Court and Congress, and against isolated people such as the ministers themselves, only the President’s supporters are persecuted.
The real intention is to annul the Bolsonaro/Mourão ticket, concludes the pastor.
“The president of the Chamber of Deputies, the Senate and the OAB are silent. The coup is being sponsored by the corrupt press, which wants to overthrow Bolsonaro because he lost billions in public funds,” says Malafaia in the video description.
