The PT had nine of its accounts deactivated on WhatsApp due to mass messaging and reports of political spam — actions prohibited by the messaging platform.
According to comments from the Workers' Party itself, the accounts were taken offline on June 25. Four of them have already been reactivated.
“We can’t say that it’s a reprisal, but Facebook certainly has a side, a political stance and a position in relation to the PL [fake news bill, supported by the PT]. They must not be happy with it,” said the party’s president, Gleisi Hoffmann, to UOL.
According to her, “the blocking of these channels occurred just days after we started the petition for impeachment, with many supporters and entities.”
Also according to the national president of the PT, the Party is migrating its communication to Telegram and will develop its own platform on the networks.
WhatsApp’s rules prohibit sending “mass or automated messages” that violate its “terms of service.” On average, around 2 million accounts are banned each month.
