With the decisive vote of Cármen Lúcia, the Second Panel of the STF accepted part of a complaint against Renan Calheiros and made the senator a defendant in Lava Jato for the first time, on charges of corruption and money laundering.
The minister agreed with Edson Fachin and Celso de Mello in considering that there is minimal evidence that, between 2008 and 2010, he had requested and received R$ 150 thousand from NM Engenharia, contracted by Transpetro, passed on to the MDB in Tocantins, to benefit Leomar Quintanilha.
Ministers Ricardo Lewandowski and Gilmar Mendes voted to archive the case.
This will be the first criminal action against Renan Calheiros in Lava Jato. Since 2017, he has had a dozen investigations shelved by the Court. There are still 9 other investigations into him underway.
