Parliamentarians placed a “jabuti” [parliamentary amendment that inserts text unrelated to the main topic] next to the text of the anti-crime package.
Amazingly, the law on telephone interceptions was changed and an ordinary person can only use recordings for their own defense and never for prosecution.
Example: a businessman who recorded a crooked politician demanding a bribe from him.
As a result of this disastrous action by Congress, the Public Prosecutor's Office will no longer be able to use recordings as evidence to convict corrupt politicians.
The dean of Lava Jato and retired prosecutor Carlos Fernando dos Santos Lima, made a statement on his social networks:
“Never again will any politician run the risk of being recorded or filmed receiving bribes. I AM ASHAMED OF OUR CONGRESSMEN,” said Carlos Fernando.
