During a conversation with supporters at the entrance to the Palácio da Alvorada, President Jair Bolsonaro spoke out about the restrictions of life as President of the Republic, commented that he lives under “house arrest” and revealed that he rode alone on a motorcycle through the streets of Brasília.
Bolsonaro commented: “Did you hear what I did yesterday? I arrived from Rio, stopped down there, got ready, told the security guard and left alone. I spent two hours riding around Brasília on my motorcycle. This is like house arrest, we have to be patient. Thank goodness Mrs. Michelle Bolsonaro doesn’t bother us.”
He also spoke out about the emergence of “political correctness”: “You can’t tell jokes anymore, have you noticed? Any business… I made a joke about Guaraná Jesus with a congressman, I joked, I said it was pink. Coca-Cola should thank me, they’re selling a lot of it. It’s a little sweet, but it goes down well when it’s really cold.”
At the time, the head of state explained why he no longer talks to journalists and pointed out a lie from VEJA magazine: “I no longer talk to the press… for over 2 months. They no longer distort, they invent. VEJA just said that I was angry with my advisors because of Sunday’s elections. I didn’t even mention the subject. It’s been happening all the time: according to a minister, according to an advisor, sources from the Palace.”
He added: “Two weeks ago, they said I had fired Heleno and he would be sent to a French embassy. When I met him, he joked: ‘Oh, no, France, put him in another embassy’. Some authorities were in trouble regarding the respirators. After that minister left, we tripled the number of seizures, the PRF is doing a great job. The PRF, when you stop at a police station, they are well uniformed, have patrol cars, and they arm you*. Seizing money, they arm you*, is very rewarding. What is recovered makes up for what is spent on their salaries.”
