The governor of São Paulo, João Doria, felt he had the right to threaten President Jair Bolsonaro and said that if the president does not make a decision about the “miracle vaccine” in the next 48 hours, he (Doria) will take the “appropriate measures”.
If President Jair Bolsonaro (no party) does not reestablish the agreement to purchase 46 million doses of the vaccine, says Doria, he and the other state governors will adopt the necessary measures to guarantee the supply of the vaccine, tested by the Butantan Institute in partnership with the Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac.
“We will wait 48 hours. If by Friday, there is no measure of retreat by the federal government to do what it must do, support the vaccines, including the one from Butantan, we know what measures can be adopted. Whether by São Paulo, or by the governors, who are saddened, not to say frustrated,” he said.
João Doria stated that the governors are “saddened, not to say frustrated” and stated that Bolsonaro disrespected the Federative Pact, the division of power between the Union, states and municipalities, by disauthorizing the meeting between the Minister of Health, Eduardo Pazuello, and representatives of 24 states.
“The president invalidated a meeting between the health minister and 24 governors. In addition to disavowing his health minister, he disavowed the federative pact. All the governors want the vaccine to save the population of their states,” Doria told the press.
