Former mayor Fernando Haddad is increasingly looking like his mentor, former president Lula. Haddad was convicted by the Electoral Court for slush funds. Judge Francisco Carlos Inouye Shintate determined a sentence of “four years and six months of semi-open prison”. The case is related to the use of funds from the construction company UTC to produce campaign material for Haddad’s 2012 mayoral campaign.
In a statement, Fernando Haddad's defense team said it will appeal the decision. As the PT presidential candidate's campaign slogan said, "Haddad is Lula. Lula is Haddad."
