On Wednesday (31), the new Minister of Defense, Walter Braga Netto, presented the new Commanders of the Armed Forces. They are: Admiral Almir Garnier Santos, Commander of the Brazilian Navy; Army General Paulo Sérgio Nogueira de Oliveira, Commander of the Brazilian Army; and Air Lieutenant-Brigadier Carlos de Almeida Baptista Júnior, Commander of the Brazilian Air Force.
They were presented at a ceremony this Wednesday (31), the 57th anniversary of the beginning of the Military Regime in Brazil, which lasted until 1985.
According to the Brazilian Constitution, the choice of Commanders of the Armed Forces is made through a list of three names forwarded to the President of the Republic by the Command of each Force.
– The Brazilian Navy, the Brazilian Army and the Brazilian Air Force remain faithful to their constitutional missions of defending the Homeland, guaranteeing constitutional powers and democratic freedoms. On this historic day, I reiterate that the greatest asset of a Nation is the guarantee of democracy and freedom for its people – said the minister in his speech.
President Jair Bolsonaro shared on Twitter the first official photo with the new commanders.
