In a speech at the IV National Commerce Forum, an event promoted by the CNDL – National Confederation of Retail Managers -, Sergio Moro, Minister of Justice of the Bolsonaro Government, refuted conspiracy theories, addressed the state of “civil war” in public security numbers and presented bold projects from the Bolsonaro Government.
“We tend to talk a lot in Brazil about economic problems and bottlenecks. When we talk about this, problems of inflation, investments and interest rates come to mind. However, we must recognize that justice and security are relevant in this area. You all know the cost of public security. Often having to deal with theft of goods, theft, or even more serious crimes committed against establishment owners or their employees. All of this ends up impacting our chances of development”, asserted Moro.
“I entered the judiciary relatively early. I spent 22 years on the bench. An invitation was made by President Bolsonaro to coordinate the Ministry of Justice and Public Security. Of course there are a series of conspiracy theories, all fanciful, but the purpose, and I have already said this publicly, was to execute a project. What I proposed to the president and there was convergence between us was: focusing on the crime of corruption, violent crime and organized crime”, he countered.
“We have to be firm, of course observing the law, but be firm. Corruption, unless you have traveled to Mars in the last 5 years and spent time there, you know the great corruption that has been revealed. This impacts our development. It generates higher costs in public spending, mistaken investments, cathedrals in deserts, obsolete magazine stores”, he reported.
On this occasion, he qualified: “As for violent crime, in 2016 we had a record number of homicides in the country. More than 60 thousand. Practically the same number of US soldiers killed in the Vietnam War. We are experiencing numbers worthy of a civil war situation”, he added.
