Deusimar Santos de Oliveira, 37, a resident of Itapipoca, a city in Ceará, went to court to legalize his marriage to a donkey. Initially, the case was dismissed, but the man appealed to the Supreme Federal Court, which granted permission for the man to enter into a stable union with the donkey. “I am in love with her, she doesn’t ask me for money, she doesn’t care what time I get home, she’s not jealous, she doesn’t cry, and she doesn’t get on my nerves… She’s the one I want to live with and I want that to be recognized,” said Deusimar.

In addition to the right to a stable union, the man may also transfer all his assets to the donkey.
