Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden said in an interview published in March that, if elected, his administration would “bring the world together” to pressure Jair Bolsonaro’s government and, in the process, take over the Amazon from Brazil.
Biden said he would “immediately begin organizing the hemisphere and the world to provide $1.4 billion for the Amazon, so that Brazil does not burn the Amazon anymore.”
“Biden’s team may take more decisive action. But let’s remember that the United States is one of the countries that emits the most carbon dioxide in the world. So, first they have to solve their problems, and then they can come to ours,” said General Mourão, in an interview with the press at the Planalto Palace on the morning of Tuesday (3/11), the day of the US elections.
The Brazilian president highlighted that Brazilian sovereignty over the Amazon is non-negotiable.
The eyes of the world have always been turned towards the Amazon because of the riches of the forest and not because of the simple desire to help the world. If that were the case, everyone would start at home or in their own countries. This is the case of the USA, one of the countries that emits the most carbon dioxide in the world.
Biden wants to take the Amazon from Brazil, that's the truth!
