A man shot and killed a woman on Barão de Amazonas Street, in downtown Niterói, Rio's metropolitan region, in the early hours of last Saturday. Security camera footage shows the moment Zilda Henrique dos Santos Leandro, 31, was shot.
According to initial reports, Zilda was known as Néia. She was allegedly shot after asking the man, identified as Aderbal Ramos de Castro, for R$ 1. In the security camera footage, the woman appears gesturing and walking towards Aderbal, who is passing by. He tries to dodge, but she follows him. He then pulls out his gun and shoots at least twice in her direction.
The victim lies on the street and the man continues on his way with the gun in his hand. Aderbal Ramos was arrested and is in the Homicide Police Station in Niterói.
Someone tried to help the victim. The witness waved to a car that was passing by, but no one stopped. Néia was taken to the Azevedo Lima State Hospital, but did not survive her injuries.
